If you find yourself in a survival situation, it can be a stressful and scary experience to go through. There are a lot of things to process and deal with during these times, so people are understandably tense.
One of the most important things that any person can do if they feel like they are in an emergency of any kind is to take a good assessment of their situation. Here are some things we should all assess during these times:
1- First of all, take stock of your surroundings. Look around you and figure out where you are, and if there is any immediate risk. If there is, then move. Be sure to note any hazards or points of importance during this visual sweep. If you need to move, start planning out the best way to do so. Also, see if there are people around to work with.
2- Next, evaluate your physical condition. Check all over your body to see if you have been injured or if anything feels off. Apply the best first aid that you can and try to stabilize your condition, especially if you are going to be moving.
3- Lastly, check over the equipment that you have on you. Everything in your possession could be a potential asset as you are moving. Additionally, check your surroundings for anything useful which you might need.
By taking these preliminary steps, you can size up your situation and figure out the best course of action based on that information. A huge part of being able to survive is to keep a level head and to pragmatically make choices, so being able to assess the situation is going to help a lot.
