Sunforce's 7 amp solar panel charge controller s made for 12 volt solar panels that produce between 10 and 84 watts of power or less than 7 amps.  Install the solar charge controller inbetween your solar panel and 12 volt battery for maintenance free overcharging protection.  Solar Charge controllers sense when your battery is full and prevent the current from the solar panels getting to your battery.  When your battery is less than full it allows full charging.  They are an absolute necessity when you plan on leaving your solar panels charging your batteries for long periods of time.  They are not needed if you have a solar panel that is less than 10 watts as they do not have the power to hurt your 12 volt battery.

Question & Answers

What is a Solar Charge Controller?
A Solar Charge controller regulates the voltage and current or amperage coming from the solar panels going to the battery and prevents the solar panel from overcharging the battery.

How does a solar charge controller work?
A charge controller is the layer of protection for your solar system. Charge Controllers are designed to protect the battery from overcharging and to prevent reverse current to panels during the night. They also regulate the voltage that comes from the solar panel which can vary with the sun conditions and may peak as high as 26 volts for a 12volt nominal output solar panel. The Solar Charge Controller manages the charging of your 12V battery. Once the battery is full the Solar Charge Controller stops the respective solar panel from overcharging your 12V battery and prevents reverse current. When the charge of the battery goes down, i.e. voltage goes down, the Charge Controller will sense this and allow the solar panel to recharge the battery.

When is a Solar Charge Controller needed?
A Solar Charge Controller is needed when you have 15 Watts of solar energy or more. A charge controller is recommended at 10 Watts.

Can I use my battery when the 7 amp Solar Charge Controller is connected?
Yes, each 7 amp Solar Charge Controller has a blocking diode installed within the wiring to prevent reverse current.

Will the Solar Charge Controller get damaged if connected to the battery permanently?
No, Solar Systems are designed to be permanently installed.

How many solar panels can I connect to my 7 Amp Solar Charge Controller?
The 7 Amp Solar Charge Controller has a maximum input of 105 Watts from a solar array. The 7 Amp Solar Charge Controller is designed for a 12 volt system only. 12 volt nominal output solar panels should be connected in parallel to keep the voltage at 12 Volts.

What are the LED indicator lights for?
The Green Charged light indicates a fully charged battery. When the battery reaches 14.2 V, the Solar Charge Controller will cut out voltage thereby ensuring no overcharging. The yellow Charging light indicates a battery that is being charged. When the battery reaches 13 V, the Battery Charge Controller will cut-in and begin charging.
